VersaFinder 60mm Achromatic Refractors
This new 60mm f3.8 227mm FL refractor was designed from the ground
up to be as versatile as possible. As a finder, guider or rich field scope,
this one does it all.
We started with a tube section that is intentionally short, so almost any
application will have enough in-focus. Some applications may need
a spacer to achieve focus, but that's better than being too long to
focus for other setups.
The objective is a multicoated cemented doublet, with a baffled lens
hood that extends 2.5" beyond the lens, and you twist the focus ring
for over an inch of focuser range! The tube section is flat black
inside with a baffle ring.
The rear cell has a twist-lock collet type 1.25" barrel receiver for
eyepieces, diagonals and camera nosepieces. Remove the twist-lock
knob and collet and there are male T-threads for rigid connection
to cameras and accessories.
The aluminum tube is available in white, black or blue, and the lens
hood, focus ring and rear cell are black anodized machined aluminum.
Rubber grip ring for focusing. Tube OD is 2.05" (52mm), Dew shield
max diameter is 2.78" (70.5mm). Overall length is 8.3" with focuser in,
9.3" focused out. OTA weight is 1.5 lbs. The distance from the rear
of the twist-lock ring to the focus plane is 3.1" at mid-focus. At the
extremes of focus range the focus plane distance is 2.6" to 3.6" from
the rear of the twist-lock ring. With the tube focused all the way in
there is 3.2" of exposed tube for mounting rings to hold.
The objective glass diameter is 61.4mm, clear aperture in front of the
lens is 59.6mm. We've been asked how it can be called a 60mm scope
when the body tube is less than 60mm diameter. The answer is that the
light cone exiting the doublet objective is narrower than the parallel
rays entering the front of the scope. (See raytrace drawing below) With
the tube focused all the way in there is some masking of the light cone
but not a significant amount for most applications.
The diagonals listed below fit the 1.25" back and accept standard 1.25"
eyepieces and accessories. SLR camera T-adapters and most astro
cameras need the #TTE1 1" T-thread extender to achieve focus.
